New Delhi, September 2025 – In a landmark initiative to democratize access to artificial intelligence, OpenAI has partnered with the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) to provide free ChatGPT Go licenses to students and faculty across AICTE-affiliated institutions. This move marks a major step in integrating AI into India’s educational and research ecosystem.
Unlocking AI for Learning and Research
Under the collaboration, 150,000 free ChatGPT Go licenses will be distributed to students and faculty for six months, giving them access to advanced AI-powered tools for:
- Learning Assistance: Problem-solving, coding support, and research guidance.
- Skill Development: Enhancing AI literacy and digital competencies for academic and professional growth.
- Innovation & Research: Supporting AI-driven projects and experiments in various technical domains.
Pilot Programs and Training
The initiative began with a pilot phase of 5,000 licenses, with the full rollout planned for later this year. Faculty will receive ‘Train-the-Trainer’ programs, enabling them to integrate AI into teaching and research effectively.
Boosting India’s AI Ecosystem
Beyond education, the partnership aims to strengthen India’s AI innovation landscape by:
- Encouraging student-led AI startups and projects.
- Promoting collaborative research between educational institutions and industry.
- Enhancing equitable access to advanced AI tools in both urban and rural institutions.
Investment in Research
OpenAI has also committed $500,000 (approximately ₹4.5 crore) in collaboration with IIT Madras to support long-term research initiatives exploring AI’s role in enhancing education and learning outcomes.
BizTech Foundation Perspective
The OpenAI–AICTE collaboration exemplifies how public-private partnerships can drive AI adoption in education, empower students with modern tools, and foster a culture of innovation. By providing free access to ChatGPT, India is equipping its next generation of engineers, researchers, and innovators with the skills to lead in the global AI landscape.
Free access to ChatGPT is more than a learning tool—it’s an opportunity to shape the future of AI-driven education and research in India.
